  1. Hi K.L., I'm stopping by from the Writer's Voice Contest to wish you the best of luck! Nice to meet you.

I would've followed your blog, but I don't see the widget!

    1. I don't know too much about blogging. I started the blog for the contest about a week ago & kind of rolled with it. I don't know how to get a widget thing. I'm sorry, but thank you so much for your support!

    2. Dear Kierstin,
Thank goodness - another newbie to this bloggin' lark. I quail at the smart links an' apps people have - like you I only stated mine for the contest.
As for querying, I sent out 23 before I decided to self publish and I wonder if I would have had more success if I'd discovered Query Shark back then.
I have learnt so much since then - check out my website www.hengistarcher.co.uk.
      Cheers

Best of luck on your entry, and welcome to the blogging world! :)

  2. Kierstin, I have an admission to make... In my random clickings I saw your name and with it felt delight spring in my memory of some thirty years past - when I knew a Kiersten. The difference is minor, the memory is true.
Thus did chance bring me here, and I'm glad it did. Your first 250 words are powerful. Good luck!

  4. Good luck in the contest, Kierstin.
Just one slight niggle - I didn't fully understand what a Wight is even after reading the summary three times. We all think we get Angels, Fallen, Demons and Watchers courtesy of Charmed and Buffy. Trouble is, I'm reading Game of Thrones and there a Wight is not a good thing.
    Am I just being dense?
    Cheers

    1. Thanks. I wish you the best!
      LOL. No, you're not dense.
A wight is actually just defined as a human. I haven't read GAME OF THRONES, but that is very interesting.
I just used it as a sort of "pet name" the Angels call their humans they watch over (instead of saying "human," or "person," or "mortal."

  5. I'm stopping by to wish good luck :) I really lovved Shannon's characterization from the query. Usually, that's the hardest part to get down, and you've done it really well. I feel for her, and I care too :) Nice job, and good luck!

    1. Thanks! I am really nervous about my plot summary from my query. I don't want to give anything away. Therefore, I am worried it is not specific enough. Thanks for your opinion it gives me more confidence!

  9. The biggest thing that strikes me about this query is that it's long. And there's those two paragraphs of questions that don't need to be there. It's confusing, and I've tried to parse it out, but I may be mistaken. But you definitely want to amp the tension, the feeling that there's something at stake. Keep the names and terms to a minimum,

Ira's job would be much easier if it weren't for free will. Ira is a Junior Angel and newest to the Watch House. Usually, Watchers are assigned to three Wights, but Ira must keep constant watch over Shannon. Fallen are lurking, waiting to tempt the teen.

When Shannon’s friends talk her into going to a party, she doesn’t realize that it involves more than music and laughter. When the booze and (specific drug) comes out, she crumbles under her crush's irresistible grin.

Ira knows she's missing something important, something that makes Shannon special. She needs the answers, before Shannon loses her life, and her soul, chasing temptation.

Narrated by the young Watcher Ira, Sodality is a 72,000 word, young-adult novel comparable to (whatever comp titles you've picked).

    Hope that helps!
